Larry Waldrop, chef & owner of the Grovewood Café for the past 20 years, is an Asheville native and a graduate of the famed AB Tech Culinary program.
As a native, Larry has been part of the Asheville farm-to-table movement from birth. Coming from a long line of dairy farmers, Larry understands the hard work and dedication that our local farmers give to growing the best this land has to offer and how that transfers to providing the local chefs with the best ingredients for their culinary exploits.
A committed member of the Appalachian Sustainability Agriculture Project (ASAP), Larry buys much of his meat and produce
from the local WNC farmer including Hickory Nut Gap Farm, Sunburst Trout Farms, Ivy Creek Family Farm, and the many local tailgate markets.
“I believe that absolutely everything should be made from scratch… no convenience, no overuse of mechanical devices, we chop by hand, we make demi from the bones forward, soups are made from our own stocks, and the bread is baked daily.”
Larry along with wife Sandy and
daughters Hunter and Kelly, have made Grovewood a family affair.
